Well if you must know...

This post is to satisfy Candice & Jennifer's curiosity. I feel that way too that when you become a mom you should be crafty and cook delicious things. I think being a mom brings it out in those who already love to be that way. I have a few friends who don't have a baby yet that I would lay money on that they explode in creative projects. Mine is mostly (can you start a sentence with mine?) because I am going to need to teach Maddie how to cook and sew and glue. Shouldn't I sharpen these skills or in the least attain them? Plus doesn't it sound sad when your husband can sew better than you?
Hence the projects I have got to step out of my comfort zone. My next project is a simple one I saw on the Today show this morning. It is going to be a housewarming gift. I am making a vase cute with ribbon and put pretty flowers in them. Then after that project (probably in the spring) I am going to make Maddie a dress.

Side note: My dad is most likely going to HK in the next few months on business and I told him he needs to go to that restaurant with the toilets. As I am typing this someone is staring a me through the bars in her crib debating whether or not she wants to wake up from her nap.

The Bird Mobile

I saw on one of my favorite blogs (http://spoolsewing.com/blog) this pattern for birds and they made a mobile. Theirs is a different style but I adapted it to this. My mom sewed the blue birds and I did the black ones then I did the ribbon. This was a little bit more difficult to hand sew than I thought due to the type of ribbon I chose. I recommend one that won't fray easily. Jeremy sawed and cleaned the sticks and rigged the fishing line, then hung it for me. Tah-dah a cheap, but useful mobile. The best part she loves it!

Falling Back

We have had a busy and fun fall thus far. Since I don't blog too frequently here is a run down in quick snippets:

We had a 'play date.' I suppose as much as you can play at this age. We had a picnic lunch at one of my favorite Fort Worth places the Botanic Gardens. Maddie is with Travis and Hannah.

This is our small group right before we started sorting at the Food Bank. We ended up not needing the hair nets because we didn't sort food, but adult diapers, feminine products, and Kleenex. It was one of the more interesting service projects to say the least, but fun none the less.

Maddie has taken to falling asleep in the funniest ways. Fortunately she wasn't pulling down hard enough, because there is only so much 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' I can stand in a row.

This is my first sewing project (my second one was Maddie's cat ears). My sister gave me her old jeans. She is growing so tall and fast so they really aren't that old or that worn. As you may be able to tell the sewing job isn't as good as I would like but it is good enough for what they are used for. I was going to give these to a friend for her baby shower, but I didn't know to double thread the needle for the snaps so they aren't sewed on well and they are going to come off soon. I didn't feel like giving a defective gift. I just bought something else to go with the gift instead. I do like jean bibs they absorb drool really well.

Just so you know.

For Halloween we went to the Botanic Gardens where they had pumpkins. This is the elusive smile finally caught on the camera. Persistence does pay off!

My best intentions

A huge change came for me when I discovered the blogging world. I was on bed rest for the last 4-6 weeks of my pregnancy. I had a lot of time on my hands and not much that I was able to do. Therefore I discovered blogs. I learning about great deals, always have, and this made it easy-with just a click of the mouse. I also enjoyed looking at the sewing and craft blogs. No offense to those who have their own etsy shop, but I felt that some of the stuff being sold on there I could make or at least attempt to without spending the marked up prices.
Jenn and Beth introduced me to free patterns. I have bookmarked some of these sites and even printed some off. However for all this I have made 2 bibs. I will post a picture of them later.

My friend Jenn and our mothers are going to spend a Saturday afternoon together sewing. My mom asked what I wanted to make during that time. Well considering all the patterns I have been accumulating it has been a tough choice. Today Beth blogged about her son's mobile that she made. That reminded me that I wanted to get Maddie one and how I already had been inspired to make it. I am going to take this idea of a bird mobile: http://www.spoolsewing.com/blog/2008/05/16/bird-mobile/ and tweak it a little bit. I will let you know how this project goes. I wanted to blog about it in the hopes that I actually undergo this.

Texas Bigfoot

My dad surprised us with a phone call asking if we wanted tickets to the Stars preseason game they were great seats and free and they said they would watch Maddie so we said yes. Jeremy bumped into Brett Hull (former hockey player) and the band All American Rejects were there hanging out.

Our dear laptop had its final days last week. Who would have thought how dependent we are on our computer. It took us a couple of days to figure out what option worked best for us and we became the owners of our new desktop last Thursday evening. Woohoo!

We had been talking about making a trip to the Fort Worth Nature Center and this Saturday was prime for such an expedition. They were having their annual Monster Bash. In 1969 some kids were at the Greer Island late at night and reported seeing a half man half goat with scales who threw tires 500ft I am guessing in their general direction. Well people in Fort Worth decided to hunt this monster and found dead sheep, but no goatman as he was later referred to. This story headlined the Star-Telegram, and somehow somebody made a movie about and wrote a book about this incident. They now call him the Texas Bigfoot. In my opinion what is more humorous is that he has his own blog http://lake-worth-monster.blogspot.com/2007/12/about-me.html .
Here are some pictures of our trip:

Family & friends

Labor Day weekend we went to Richardson and spent time with the family. It was strange being at home and my brother not living there. He had left a couple of weeks before to go down to A&M Galveston for school. Saturday night Jeremy and I got to go on a date to BJ's. We love their pizza! It was nice to spend some time just the two of us. Thank you mom and dad for watching her. On Sunday, we went to Josh & Marni's apartment where they were gracious enough to let people stop on by to see us and hang out. It was great getting to see some people we hadn't seen in quite awhile and catch up some on how they are doing.

This is Maddie and Jeremy about to watch football together.
Maddie with Rachel:

Some pictures of Maddie playing on her activity mat from this week. I think this may be her favorite thing to do other than eat. I am pretty sure this is her trying to dance.
